Something weird happened to my phone this week. Apparently, it's been needing a reboot all week. I left a check for the bug man, even though he never texted to say he'd be dropping by. Or did he? The short answer? Yes, his text was among the week's worth of texts that came through when I rebooted my phone. Calls were not getting through either. And it had been like this all week. And, since my phone connects to both my home and work WiFi, I had no clue anything was wrong until today. Today, I got a notification, "Phone Not Activated." I was like, what the hell? I paid my bill! But then my co-worker suggested that I reboot my phone, and sure enough, it works now. I have had my current phone for several years, and this is the first time this ever happened. Oh well, I guess the lesson is to reboot once in a while. Go figure go fish. Ah, technology. As I've often rambled about, I try to store a lot of my digital stuff optically, as well as magnetically, so it won't all be zapped by a future solar flare. But, from what I saw in that History Channel doomsday marathon, with the worldwide grid frying and the food supply collapsing, yep... I doubt I'd live long enough to test that theory. So, if that happens, I will bequeath all to the future barbarians that find it. Please don't burn the disks for warmth. I guess a non-fried computer would be a rare thing in such a hell scape, so that's probably how my luck would work. Let's hope we avoid the flares until folks get smart enough to harden the grid. With everything in this world, depending on computers and electricity, we would be totally screwed. It is most definitely not 1859.
Drivers: Don't you just hate the car sandwich scenario? You know, the car in front of you wants to creep, and the one behind you wants to ride your bumper? I hate to pass. I only usually do so if I have no other choice. I did this morning, though. Some things just get on my last freaking nerves. They need to invent the teleporter. Beam me to work, Scotty. It's been a crazy week at work, but I got a lot done. They most certainly got their money's worth out of me. I am currently down 13 pounds from my previous average weight. Sadly, I seem to be holding steady rather than losing more. I've got some plans for the weekend and next week that should help it along if I also watch what I eat. Hopefully, this will bring it down more. I guess I wrote a lot about my efforts along these lines in my last entry, so I won't bore you by rehashing them here.
Birthday month for my family is coming up with my father, myself, my late grandparents on his side of the family, and both of my sisters. I usually took my birthday off work, but I won't do so this year. Momma won't be calling. Marsha won't be calling. If I didn't go to work, I'd sit home staring at 4 walls and probably cry. After my own, there will be Marsha's second birthday since I lost her. It will be yet another reminder just how much I miss her. My baby sister, my dear sister, my kind, caring, and strong sister. How in the hell am I supposed to deal with this for the rest of my life?
Later, we'll have November, birth-month for all three of my kids, after which, none of their ages will end in teen again. I am not sure how I am supposed to feel about that. Sad, liberated, lonely, accomplished? Maybe all of these things. I don't remember much about those times, two and more decades ago. However, I remember the first time each of my babies were placed in my arms. I loved them from the moment I knew they existed, but that particular moment sealed the deal. Ah, to look down at that little one on your arms changes your entire purpose in life.
The next week:
I had an adventurous Friday around the house. Fought the yellow flies, battled the red bugs, and killed one rattlesnake. In the meantime, I managed to clean up and clear up a fair portion of my front and side yard. It's really looking better around the house, and hopefully, so am I. I dropped another 5 pounds over the weekend, though I kind of overdid it, Friday. I took it easy on Saturday, then did all my mowing Sunday. Now it's back to work-work. The electric bill came on Saturday. It was monstrous as expected, but thankfully not quite as monstrous as I feared it would be. With these 100-degree temperatures coming this week, I have no illusions about the next bill being any less monstrous. The electric company needs to change their name to Monsters Inc. It costs a pretty penny just to survive these days. I've cut down on my groceries significantly, and I've cut out my Goodwill trips altogether, all in an effort to offset these giant bills. I hope to resume them when this scorching summer is over. I am hoping for a real Fall this year, one that actually lasts a reasonably long time. Damn this going straight from the oven to the deep freezer. I'd like a couple of months of simply running the fan and opening the doors and windows. Give me 70-degree days and 50-degree nights. I would absolutely love that. And those bills would be a lot lower. Have I ever looked forward to Fall this much? To me, both Summer and Winter are too much, just in opposite extremes. Neither frozen nor roasted my butt should be. Bring on that Fall weather.
You know, some days you're simply damned if you do and damned if you don't. And I am very weary of days like that. Sometimes, I just wish everyone would leave me be to go through the motions and do whatever to get through said days. Arguing wouldn't change anything. I guess I should drop the importance of convincing people of what I know to be the truth. Most people we encounter in our day to day life are most certainly not our friends. As much as we may want people to get us, understand us, it's not worth a full-on battle. And if they're not our friends, then what would be the point? I guess I should continue to focus on the things I have the power of changing. I guess there will come a time when nothing else is going to matter anyway. I guess I am just a bit weary of this world today. I had been quite excited about the progress around the house and the weight I've lost so far. I guess I should still be. My weight used to fluctuate about 10 pounds, high and low, and now I'm down 12 pounds from my old minimum and 22 pounds from my former maximum. That's certainly progress. Though, hunger puts me in a bit of a bitchy mood sometimes. I don't want to give up on my goal, especially when I am so much closer. Meanwhile, my yard is looking much less like a jungle these days. I have made a lot of progress. I guess my next project will be all about making a path to my water well which is way too far from the house. Maybe this coming weekend? Maybe. My tightened budget on my finances is starting to yield results, with my debts actually decreasing a bit this month, though that monstrous electric bill will reverse some of that progress. Still, it would have been a hell of a lot worse had I not taken action. So I am advancing on all fronts. I guess that's something to remember when I get discouraged and frustrated with some of the bullshit I am forced to face at work. People want to assume a lot of shit before actually investigating it and I get tired of being accused of things I didn't do. Ask, dont assume. Assuming makes an ass out of you and me. Actually it just makes you an asshole. Sorry, folks, I'm just venting in the only place I really can. Thank you, Doctor Blog-ieo. You're my only friend.
It seems to be Michael Myers time once again. For those who may have missed my earlier explanation, Michael Myers time is a special kind of time. In what way? Well, it is time that is damned difficult if not impossible to kill. It just won't die. Not even Doctor Loomis can stop its creepy creeping. The only choice one has when trapped in Michael Myers time, is to endure and wait it out. And so, here I am, with hours and hours to go. Well, I've got a lot to think about, so I guess now is as good a time as any. There's the possibility of my taking on a second job. I can't really go into any more detail than this, but it will mean a few more buckazoids to go towards the bills. It would be most helpful as I have some added expenses coming up. I've got to see my doctor, renew my medication, get the oil changed in my car, and renew two tags, all in the space of the following month. So, a few more buckazoids is just what I need if I am to continue digging myself out of this financial abyss. I might as well go for it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? It is something I am mostly confident I can do, though it will involve researching and learning new things. My former boss used to say I had a knack for computers.
If this were still 1998 or 1999, I wouldn't even have to do research, but times have changed over the decades. There is a lot I don't know. But, that too, is something I have the power to change. Wish me luck, Oh Friends, Romans, Robots, and Strangers. A special thanks is in order for my therapist, Doctor Blog-ieo. Without their steadfast presence in my life, I wouldn't be rockin' and rollin' today.
